One of the recommendations of the Committee appointed by Gov- ernment to enquire into the sufficiency or otherwise of Government launches was that one launch from the Government Marine Surveyor's Department should be laid up, and that the number of Conveyance Allowances to Assistant Government Marine Surveyors should be increased from six to ten These allowances are $480 per annum each.

To pay these four additional allowances for the period 1.3.32 to 31.12.32 the sum of $1,600 is required.

The immediate saying in a full year from the laying up of the launch will be $5,363.00.

It is proposed to review the position after twelve months.

* 9.-13, Harbour Department and Air Services :-Special Expenditure. New Water Boat for Tai O Station

The Tai O Station Water Boat, built in 1927 became unserviceable early last year. An old confiscated ampan was sent out in its place, and that has now become unserviceable.

The estimated cost of a new boat required for that Station is $375 for which application is now submitted. This expenditure was approved in 1931, F.M.13, Item 112 of 1931 but too late for the work to be carried out before the end of the financial year.

The above is to be met from savings under Repairs, minor improve- ments and stores for Launches and Boats (1932 Estimates page 28 sub-head 14).

10.-37, Public Works Extraordinary-Hong Kong, Miscellaneous. Garage, Arbuthnot Road.

A sum of $5,000 was included in the 1931 Estimates H.31, S.H.24) for this work. An amendment in the design was made which raised the tender to $5,850.00. The work was commenced in October but could not be completed by the end of the year. It is now practically Completed and a vote is requested to meet the final accounts and retention money.
