Dear Mr. Southern,
The Foreign Office sent us last month a
copy of Sir F. Lindley's confidential despatch
No.194 of the 8th April 1932, on the subject of
the visit of a Japanese man-of-war to Hong Kong.
The matter was held up here for discussion with
Sir William Peel on his arrival in England. It
has now been discussed with him, and he has agreed
that the incident may be regarded as closed. In
the circumstances we do not propose to address any
further official communication on the subject
either to the Foreign Office or to yourself.
(Sgd.) J.E.Shuckburgh.
