Article 1081.

Where either the adoptive parent
or the adopted child is found in one of the following conditions, the Court may, at the instance of the other party, terminate their adoptive relationship :-
Where one party has ill-treated or grossly

insulted the other;
Where one party has deserted the other in bad faith;
3.
Where the adopted child has been sentenced to not less than two years' imprisonment ;
4.
Where the adopted child has spent money waste- fully.
5.
Where it has been uncertain for three years whether the adopted child is alive or dead;
6. Where other grave reasons exist.
Article 1142.
The order of succession for an
adopted child is the same as for a legitimate child.
The laws of Tang and Yuan are old laws of former dynasties and are not applicable now. We have quoted from them simply in order to prove that adopted daughters existed in those days and that they did so with the sanction of the law. But the Civil Code of the Republic of China was promulgated on December 26th 1930 and came into force on May 5th, 1931. It is the code of laws now
in force throughout China. In all the articles we have quoted from it above, the expression used is never "adopted son" but is always "adopted son or adopted daughter". Thus there cannot be a shadow of doubt that
the Code of the pre sent day recognizes adoption of
daughters.
