LR. VERNON agreed that he would forward a copy of the
Company's letter when received to the three Fighting
Services.
CONCLUSIONS.
It was agreed
(a) to recommend that there would be no objection
to holding up the proposed inauguration of a wireless service between liong Kong and Japan until such time as Imperial and International Communications Ltd. have assumed the responsibility for the Hong Kong wireless service.
(b) that, it is understood that opportunities
are offering to the Hong Kong Government to undertake new wireless services. It is realised that to permit the Government of Hong Kong to undertake these services without reference to Imperial and International Communications Ltd., might lead to a situation in which services might be undertaken by the Government of Hong Kong prejudicial to the interests of Imperial and International Communications Ltd. view, however, of the fact that it is undesirable to lose opportunities of extending the wireless services in this area, in suitable cases it is suggested that the Colonial Office should consult with Imperial and International Communications Ltd., regarding any proposed new services and that, provided that the Company agree that their future interests would not be prejudiced, such new services should be undertaken.
In
(c) that it is also understood that Imperial and Inter-
national Communications Ltd., although
proposing to take over the existing wireless service in Hong Kong, are at present
doubtful as to whether they can proceed with the erection of the proposed high power station at this place, although erection
of this station forms part of the proposed contract. Prima facie, there would appear to be no objection to such a procedure on the part of the Company, but this recommendation is dependent on a further examination of the position by the departments concerned, who are asked to inform the Secretary in due course of any remarks.
(a) that Mr. Vernon be asked to circulate a
copy of Imperial and International Communications Limited's letter to the Colonial Office, stating their proposals in regard to wireless service at Hong Kong, to the members of the Imperial Communications Committee as soon as it is received.
