With reference to your letter GM(C) of the
5th of August regarding the wireless services in Hong
Kong, I am directed to inform you that a telegram has
been received from the Officer Administering the
Government of Hong Kong in which he states that the
essential minimum requirements of the Colony for existing telegraph purposes are (a) additional trans- mitting equipment estimated to cost £12,000, and (b)
additional receiving equipment estimated to cost
£4,000. He states that these requirements are entirely
apart from the requirements which a regular service with
Japan would involve, and merely suffice to modernise the
present service. They would permit, however, of initiating a service with Japan if necessary.
2.
The Officer Administering the Government proposes
to make provision for these items in the Colony's
Estimates for 1933 unless your Company is prepared to
undertake the work. If the equipment is installed by
the Government it will be necessary for your Company to
take it over at a valuation, if and when an agreement
for the transfer of the wireless services is concluded.
The Officer Administering the Government also
states that the establishment of a wireless telephone
