MR. ROBINSON suggested that the Hong Kong Government
be informed that it is part of Imperial policy to secure the
of a
erection/high power station at Hong Kong, as
one of a link of stations to the Far East, but that we,
in this country, must be judges of the time when it is
possible to put this in hand; in the meantime it is
most desirable that all communications should be under
the control of Imperial and International Communications,
Limited,
MR. VERNON suggested that it would be necessary
to draft a telegram to Hong Kong pointing out that it
was still the policy not to enter into commercial
competition with the Company, and therefore desirable that
communications should be handed over to the Companys
but the Governor be asked to state precisely what his
requirements are and the Company be informed that if they
are unable to provide these requirements, the high
power station excepted, it may be necessary to
break off negotiations.
COLONEL HOME suggested that it be pointed out to
the Hong Kong Government that in any case they would
not obtain the high power station.
CONCLUSION:
It was agreed :
that, subject to the concurrence of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, the Colonial Office should inform
the Governor of Hong Kong that
it was still the policy not to enter into commercial competition with Imperial and International Communications, Limited, and that therefore it was desirable that wireless communications in the Colony should be handed over to the Company, and to request him to inform the Colonial Office of the extension of the services he required, apart from the high power station which was out or the question, and that the Company be acquainted of the requirements and be infomed that if they are not prepared to meet these requirements forthwith negotiations may have to be broken off,
