Sir.Peel, in the course of a gene ral

discussion on .. affairs, raised this

question of the transfer of the telegraph

services.

e is much exercised by the delay which

has occurred, which he says is very incon- venient to the Colony, where improved

telegraph services are urgently required.

e hinted at abandoning the negotiations

and providing improved services at the ex-

pense of Colonial funds. .h. is in the

exceptional position of being able to

afford such expenditure.

I gave him from memory the substance of

our tel. of 3th une, of which I have now

sent him a copy.
