south end of the yard and lie closer to the fronts of the
buildings in the central portion of the Yard.
Such an
adjustment would necessitate having the first standard on
the east side of the entrance and approximately on the site
of the police hut in the Naval Armament Depot.
It was suggested that the trestle structure at the
bend could then be placed immediately to the west of the
structure marked on plan "Ordnance Shelter Open Shed", thus
leaving clear more of the roadway.
Colonel Stokes pointed out that this arrangement
would block access to the shed referred to and also to the
Lorry garage immediately to the North of it and would
obstruct both light and access to the building marked
"New Ordnance Workshops (Army)", which is used as a
carpentry shop.
It was suggested that this difficulty might be
overcome and road obstruction further reduced by placing
the trestle structure partially upon the side of the shed
marked "Ordnance Shelter Open Shed", which would then have
to be erected elsewhere.
It was further suggested that the difficulty as to the terminal structure encroaching upon the quay space
the difficulty of the obstruction of the roadway and the
difficulty of providing unobstructed space for sheds might
all be overcome if arrangements could be made for throwing
into the A.O.D. the area hatched blue on the accompanying
plan, the area hatched red near the entrance and the building marked "Army" and hatched green (which is in fact
a naval building).
The Government representatives pointed out that
inasmuch as the Government expected to receive the area
