With reference to your letter No.92608/32,
dated 15th February 1932, in connection with the surrender
by the Admiralty of the Naval Arsenal Yard and Kellet
Island, Hong Kong, to the Government of Hong Kong, I am
commanded by My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to
state for the information of the Secretary of State for
the Colonies that as a result of subsequent correspondence
with the War Office My Lords are informed that the Army
Council concur in the view that no expenditure involved
in the retention of the aerial ropeway should fall on
Naval Funds, and that, failing a solution of the problem
on other lines, the question of how such expenditure,
whether upon diverting or re-providing a ropeway, should
be met as between the Colonial Government and the War
Department, will be a matter for separate discussion with
the Colonial Government. In these circumstances My
Lords assume that any further letters that may be
necessary on the subject will be addressed to the War
Office.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.1.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
