The cuticle seems to have a very fine transverse striation. terior end bears eight submedial and two lateral setær, and a circle of six small papillæ. The circular amphids are situated about twice the diameter of the anterior end behind the mouth opening. The mouth cavity is funnel- shaped, the dorsal wall bears one small tooth. The nerve ring encircles the œsophagus in its middle. Posteriad the œsophagus is enlarged to a bulb The two equal spicula are o.oz mm. There is a horse-shoe-shaped long and very slender in their distal part. telamon and a short straight gubernaculum. We found two pairs of pre- anal and one pair of postanal papillæ. The tubular outlet of the spinneret is short.
without valves. There are two testes.
The subgenus Microlaimoides was based on Microlaimoides setosus Hoeppli 1926 with the following diagnosis:
Characters as in Microluimus. Differences: Four submedial setæ at the anterior end. Amphids of a faint spiral form at a distance of about twice the length of the pharynx from the anterior end. Two straight ovaries, of equal length, and not reflexed. The uterus contains one or two large The cggs. The tail is furnished with a gland consisting of three cells. outlet of the spinneret is short. The nerve ring is situated at a short dis- tance in front of the esophageal bulb. The large somewhat spiral amphids are situated at a distance of about twice the length of the pharynx from the anterior end."
Contrary to this diagnosis of the subgenus, Microluimoides lingi has ten setæ at its anterior end. The amphids are circular and not spiral. Furthermore, the nerve ring in the new species is situated at about the middle In all of the œsophagus and not a short distance in front of the bulb, other respects, the two forms are similar and it was therefore found best to revise the diagnosis of the subgenus.
M. setosus was found in Yellowstone Park in thermal water which had almost cooled off to atmospheric temperaturc.
M. lingi is called after Mr. Ling Shao-wen, Assistant in the Depart- ment of Zoology of the University of Amoy.
