Depth 15% to 211⁄2; head 7 to 9, 2 to 3 in trunk; tail little less than rest of body. Eye 9 1/5 to 12, 2 in snout. Mouth cleft 2 to 21⁄2 in head. Head, body and fins with large polygonal or rounded black spots, separated by narrow white lines or distinct interspaces of ground colour, all or most spots wider than interspaces. Length over 1,100 mm.

Depth 13 to 20; head 7 to 8, 22 to 29/10 in trunk; tail shorter than to nearly equal to head and trunk. Eye 8 to 12, 11⁄2 to 2 in snout. Mouth cleft 2 to 5 in head. Brownish, with more or less conspicuous very fine white or yellow lines, forming networth or sometimes body nearly en- tirely uniform dark brown. Length over 560 mm. (Weber and Beaufort; Chen).

Depth 364 to 51; head 11% to 17, 4 3/5 to 7 in trunk; tail equals
or little shorter than head and trunk. Eye 122 to 20 in head. Mouth cleft 22/5 to 4.
Dorsal begins at last third of head. Brownish olive or sulphur yellow, anteriorly part of head with small blackish dots, fins with white edges. Length to 1,032 mm.

Depth less than 30.

Teeth entire. Front nostrils at short space from snout end, with low rim ending in bilobed flap behind. Hind nostrils midway between front nostrils and eye, oval, not much smaller than eye, surrounded by broad thin rim.
