374 in-patients were treated in the three wards of the Surgical Clinic at the Government Civil Hospital.

465 Surgical operations under anesthesia were performed. The out-patients attendance in the Surgical Clinic (including Ear, Nose, Throat and Orthopædics) numbered 3,245.

There were also 2,560 new patients who attended the ophthalmic out-patients Clinic.

Low Morbidity or Temperature Rate.

3.9% of patients had a temperature during the lying-in period. Low Mortality or Death Rate.

Six patients died, which gives a mortality rate of 53%. During the year ended April 30th, 1931, 1,384 maternity cases were admitted to the Tsan Yuk Hospital, and 590 to the Government Civil Hospital under our care.

Of these 1,974 cases, 1,841 were delivered, of whom 629 were primiparæ, and 1,212 multiparæ. The number of infants born alive was 1,773.

Under the present regulations each student is attached to this Department for a period of 6 months, during which time he attends cases in the labour wards; and as there is no shortage of patients, students are able to attend from 30 to 50 cases or more, of labour during their 6 months Ward Clerk duty. students also attend the Out-patient Dispensaries held twice. weekly and have opportunities for examining a large number of patients. They also see the routine work of the gynecological wards and are responsible for taking the histories of the patients.
