September the first signs of disorder were apparent in

Kowloon which had hitherto been absolutely quiet. A few

isolated Japanese were attacked, one of whom ran into

Yaumati Police Station. A hostile crowd collected there

and there was some stone throwing. The crowd did not

disperse until they had been charged several times by the

Police. By midnight all was quiet both in Hong Kong and

Kowloon.

On Saturday morning the 26th September conditions

appeared to be more satisfactory. Minor demonstrations

occurred in the Central District in Connaught Road,

Voeux Road and Wing Lok Street, but they were not suffi-

cently serious to warrant calling out the Emergency Unit.

25th September and informed H.E. that the situation
