I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
25 on 17035 of Your Lordship's despatch No.181 of 29th June, 1931, on (PF) HR. BUFFERS
the subject of the bonuses payable for certain distinctions
in the Bar Examinations, and in reply to inform you that
the change from sterling to dollars does not appear to have
received special sanction but that, together with many
similar alterations in the denomination of payments, it was
included in the general revision of the General Orders of
Hong Kong forwarded with Sir R. E. Stubbs' despatch No.206
of 6th May, 1924.

2. I consider that payment should in future more
properly be in sterling and with Your Lordship's concurrence
I propose to make an appropriate amendment to General Order
114(7) so as to revert to the sterling figures approved in
the late Viscount Milner's despatch quoted in the despatch
under acknowledgment.
