With reference to Colonial Office letter No. 82854/31
of the 8th instant, asking us to notify Hong Kong of the
arrangements made for the payment of pensions to Hong Kong
pensioners resident in Australia and of salary to officers
of that Colony whilst on leave in Australia, as negotiations
are now in progress between H.M.Government in the United
Kingdom and the Commonwealth on the general question of
exchange variations (referred to in Colonial Office letters
No. 81408/31 of the 20th July. 1931, and the 14th September,
1931, respectively) and the position is not clear to us,
I understand from your telephone conversation of the 16th
instant, that you may prefer to communicate with the
Governor of HongKong direct in reply to his representations
on the subject.
The two vouchers enclosed with the letter under
reference are attached.
