8. Professor of Pathology. (Press Notice).
It is not surprising that the Board of Education dislike the document enclosed in t It provides
candidates with a singularly confusing account of
salary prospects and even so the truth ofthe
statements is not guaranteed.
Capacity and willingness
to play cricket is in Hong Kong a qualification for
the Readership in History.
The question raised in paragraph 3 of 7 is
one on which Personnel Division should be consulted.
The following appointments for Hong Kong University
have been filled in the last few years with the
assistance of the Board:-
Date of request.
1928.
Lecturer in Physics.
#
Chemistry
1929.
Reader in Biology
#
English.
Lecturer in Commerce.
The requests all came via the Governor,
by despatch to Secretary of State, except that for
a Reader in English in 1928, when the Vice-Chancellor
of the University, being in England, approached the
Board of Education direct. That was a special case
and Mr. (now Sir W.) Homell desired that vacancies
should continue to be filled through the agency of
the Colonial Office (see 0.A.G's despatch of 24.10.28
10 on 28749 Eastern). So far as I can discover the
arrangements in connection with the vacancy for a
Professor of Pathology (see 8, which I obtained from
Dr. Stanton) represent the first departure from
that rule since 1928.
(Sgd.) J.M. Martin.
