SECTION 33.
Volunteer Defence Corps.
We have been asked to reconsider the scale
of salary $300
$420 awarded to the Range Warden of
the Corps, but are of the o pinion that the award was
made after adequate consideration of the duties of
the post and should not be disturbed.
ACTING PAY.
72. An allowance of £50 per annum was granted
to Mr. Whyte-Smith, Assistant Crown Solicitor when
acting as Police Magistrate, Kowloon, on the analogy
of the allowances to Cadets in similar circumstances.
The Cadet allowances having been abolished on the
recommendation of Government (Sessional Paper No.3.
of 1930) that drawn by Mr. Whyte Smith should also
cease with the revision of his salary.
73.
Our attention has been drawn to the fact
that the following officers, namely 2nd Class
Overseers, Public Works Department, 2nd Class
Inspectors, Sanitary Department, 2nd Class
European Revenue Officers, Imports & Exports Department, although liable to indefinite waits for
promotion to the First Class of their respective
branches do not enjoy the benefit of acting pay
usually concomitant with that position, the reason
being that the duties of those branches are not
capable
