I am directed by Mr. Secretary Chamberlain to
acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 15th ultimo,
stating that you have been offered the post of Chief
Superintendent of the Map Department, Land Registry Office,
and asking Mr. Chamberlain's sanction of your acceptance
of the post.
(2) In reply I am to inform you that Mr. Chamberlain
grants you permission to retire from the Hong Kong service
as from the 1st September last, without forfeiting your
claim to a retiring allowance from the Colony on your
ultimate requirement from the Imperial service.
(3) You should take immediate steps to refund to the
Crown Agents the half salary which has been paid you for
the month of September.
(4) I am to enclose for your perusal and return a
copy of the Hong Kong Widows and Orphans' Pensi on Fund
Ordinance and to draw your attention to section 14.
