General Orders Amendment No. 50.

The following amendments are hereby made in General Orders :-

3077/22.

General Order No. 101 is hereby cancelled with effect C.S.O. No. from the 1st January, 1931, and the following substituted therefor :----

“101.—(1) In this order "Calculation period" means a period from the 16th of one month to the 15th of the following month inclusive.

"Treasury rate means the average of the daily opening demand rates of exchange on London published by the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation during the completed calculation period next before the date on which the sterling salary in question becomes payable, or in the case of arrears or refunds of sterling salary the date of payment.

(2) The salaries of sterling-paid officers who are performing resident service, or are on local leave under General Order 132, or being in the Colony are excused duty on account of the state of their health or, being educational officers are temporarily free from duty by reason of school vacations, will be converted monthly into dollars as to one half at the Treasury rate and as to the other half at the fixed rate of $1 1s. 6d.

(3) Sterling-paid officers on leave, not being local leave or leave resulting from school vacations as aforesaid, will be paid their salaries monthly in sterling or, if they elect to draw salary locally, in dollars, at the Treasury rate.

(4) Arrears of sterling salary due to and refunds of sterling salary due from officers will either be converted into dollars as provided in paragraph (2) of this order or be wholly converted at the Treasury rate according as the officer, during the period in question, was in the Colony as mentioned in paragraph (2) or on leave as mentioned in paragraph (3) of this order.

(5) This order takes effect from 1st January, 1931, but is subject to variation at the discretion of the Government."
