My Lord,
I have the honour to address Your
Lordship with reference to the proposed grant of a
site for the erection of new premises for the Po
Leung Kuk.

Your Lordship is already familiar
with the very valuable work carried on by this society,
and in my despatch No.275 dated May 21st, 1930, I
forwarded a note which explained briefly its history
and constitution. The building which has for many
years served as a meeting place for the Committee of
this institution as well as a refuge for the women and
children under its care is situated in the heart of
the city adjacent to the site occupied by the Tung Wah
Hospital. It has long been recognised that the building
and its surroundings are unsuitable for use as anything
more than a temporary refuge if only from the fact that
the whole of the site is occupied by the building and
no open space is available for exercise or recreation.
3. Its central position how ever made it
peculiarly suitable as a meeting place for the Committee
as well as convenient for the attendance of the very
