My Lord,
I have the honour to refer to my
confidential despatch dated the 19th of December,
1930, and to emphasise the need of a speedy decision on the part of the Merger Company
regarding the offer set out in the Draft
Agreement. Although certain minor points may have been overlooked, the general negotiations should have now reached a stage approaching
finality and in my opinion the Company should be
pressed to give a definite decision before
Mr. King the Colony's Electrical Engineer returns
from leave in England.
He is due back in the
Colony on the 3rd of October next.
2. The normal development of the Colony's Wireless Services has already been retarded
approximately two years on account of the Merger
Company's proposals. During this period the task of properly equipping the Hong Kong Wireless Station has been suspended and the growing requirements of the Colony in the matter of telegraphic communications have been met by temporary and
