HEADQUARTERS,

CHINA COMMAND,

HONG KONG.

April 8th 1931.

Your Excellency

I have the honour to refer to Your

Excellency's letter No. 1331/1930.c. dated the 31st

of March, 1931.

(a)

(-b)

}

(c)

In the event of war with China, we would

fight on the Frontier, consequently the proposed

site of the Commercial Wireless Station would

be within the line of Defence.

In the event of war with a First Class Power

it would not be possible to hold a line further North than the Kowloon Ridge, consequently the

Wireless Station would be outside the line of

Defence. It would not be possible to provide a detached Force for its protection.

It is not considered likely that a hostile

Power would attempt a landing on the West Coast of

the Leased Territory in the vicinity of SANTIN, yet it would appear likely that if a landing were to be effected on the Mainland, an enemy would

attempt either to seize or destroy the Wireless

Station.

I have the honour to be,

Your Excellency's obedient Servant,

(SD). J.W. SANDILANDS.

Major-General,

Commanding the British Troops in China.

To:- His Excellency the Governor,

HONG KŨNG.
