Sir,

In further reference to Mr. Ellis' letter dated

30th September last (No. 72724/2/30) relating to the

action brought by the China Navigation Co. Ltd., against

the Attorney General, the Plaintiffs have now filed

their Affidavit of Documents, and this constitutes the

list of documents upon which they intend to rely at the

trial.

The Affidavit contains a great number of

documents, many of which I have obtained from China and

the Departments concerned. There is, however, doubt as to

whether the Plaintiffs will refer to all the documents

they have included, and I am at present in correspondence

with their Solicitors upon this point. The following

documents, however, will certainly be required and I

should be glad if you would let me know whether these

are obtainable without bespeaking copies from the

Plaintiffs' Solicitors:

1. (a) Copy of the Hong Kong Ordinance No. 1 of 1868.

(2

(b) Copy of the Hong Kong Ordinance No. 7 of 1900.
