Colonial Secretary's Office,

Gentlemen,
I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No.119 M/S. A. 604 dated 8th April forwarding copies of the
amended form of agreement for Hong Kong Classes I and II.
(2) Since the issue of the instructions of the
Secretary of State to which reference is made, a subsequent recommendation has been received from the Secretary of State in his miscellaneous despatch of 25th February, 1931, to the effect that instead of the bonus of the equivalent of three months' salary there should be substituted a grant of full pay leave, additional to the half pay leave granted for the period of the passage to England.
(3)
It is intended that this grant shall, so far
as this Colony is concerned, be restricted as a general rule to three months, with a deduction for any period of leave taken during the agreement other than sick or casual leave.
(4) You will no doubt take steps to modify the forms of agreement in this sense.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
امید
(Sgd.) N. L. Smith
p. Colonial Secretary.
