Dear Mr. Mayhew,
I am very sorry to trouble you again regarding the Memorandum I sent you re the Hong Kong University, but since writing yesterday I have received a reply from Mr. Silcock, who has suggested several small but important corrections; these I have inserted in the enclosed copy, and I would ask you to adopt them in the copy which is circulated.
If I could succeed in getting some help from the Marketing Board or Development Board, either in the form of a donation for a Club, or for a certain number of scholarships, it would enable me to put up a better case to the Universities China Committee and the Shipping Lines.
I am afraid that the China Society would not be able to organise and run a Club for Chinese, as it has very small funds at its disposal, and no regular office, and is really only an Association of English people interested in China and a few Chinese, for social amenities and the study of Chinese culture. But if we could raise the funds, there need not be any difficulty in this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Lugares
