Mr. Calder Marshall xentioned the case of The
Eastern Trading Company in which the Chinese were proceed-
ing against the Chinese Manager of the Company on account
of a contract signed by his on the pretext that the
Company itself, not having registered, could not be re-
cognised as a jurišiesl body. In the same connection
Mr. Burkhill mentioned a similar case with which he had
had to deal in connection with his insurance agency in
Manchuria. ir . Lampson referred briefly to the
attitude of H...,' namely that if such registration
regulations were reasonable they would probably have
to be complied with in the long run, since similar
registration procedure existed in other countries.

In the meanwhile, however, the matter should, if possible, be treated as part of the general Extra-territoriality
issue.
Fr. ·oodhead enquired whether it would not be possible for the inister to authorise the issue of some statement in regard to the question of the Kuomintang in Malays to counteract the Chinese propaganda on the subject. dir . Lampson explained why he was aginst starting a newspaper controversy on this delicate question and gave a brief outline of the situation which he found existing in Mlays as the result of the enormous infiltration
of Chinese and the outeose of the discussions which he had had with the Singapore authorities on the subject.
