Governor should be informed that the
Secretary of State agrees that some revision
is necessary, but say that in view of
the considerable fall in the value of the
Hong Kong dollar since 1923, as well as the
increase in the sterling limits laid down by
Colonial Regulations, he would be prepared to
consider rather higher limits than those
suggested in this despatch. It might be ob-
served that the limits now suggested are only
the approximate dollar equivalents of the
existing sterling limits, whereas the limits
fixed in 1923 considerably exceeded the
dollar value of the sterling limits at that
time.
minor point is that the $3,800, the
proposed limit for Class 1, is an oda figure
to choose. It is possible that this is a
typin error for $3,000.
