This is to introduce Mr. H.G. Hughes the University's

Lecturer and Reader in History.

The University has been approached by the Government

of Hong Kong with regard to the writing of a History of the

Colony, and the University proposes to put Mr. Hughes in charge

of this work.

Would it be possible for you to arrange for Mr. Hughes

to have access to some of the Colonial Office records with refer-

ence to Hong Kong, especially to its early history?
