MINISTRY OF HEALTH,

256 &ND

WHITEHALL, S.W.1.

10 September, 1930.

Sir,

(very 20/6)

I am directed by the Minister of Health to advert to his letter of the 21st July, 1926, (Colonial Office reference C.10856/26) respecting the recognition under the Public Health (Imported Food) Regulations, 1925, of an Official Certificate for lard and similar rendered fats imported from Hong Kong, and to say that it has been represented to him that at the present time Chinese dealers are shipping lard to Hong Kong for admixture with local products and that the resultant compound is being exported to this country under cover of the Hong Kong Official Certificate.

The Minister would be glad if this allegation could be brought to the notice of the Government of Hong Kong, and he would welcome an assurance that effective measures are being taken to prevent any misuse of the recognised Certificate.
