My Lord,

22DECIL.V.

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG, 18th November, 1930.

Enclosure No. 1.

Enclosures 2 & 3.

I have the honour to acknowledge the

receipt of Your Lordship's despatch No.285 dated 23rd

September, 1930, on the subject of the alleged export

from Hong Kong of a mixture containing lard of Chinese

origin under cover of an Official Certificate.

2.

I enclose a copy of a report dated 3rd

November, 1930, from the Head of the Sanitary Department

which, I would submit, completely refutes the allegation

in question. No export certificates are granted in this Colony except in respect of the product of the Government

abattoirs where careful ante- and post-mortem

examination is invariably enforced.

3.

I should be interested to learn if possible

the source of these allegations as the meat packing

industry of this Colony has in the past been the victim of similar attacks from interested parties in Shanghai, as appears from the correspondence of which copies are

forwarded herewith.
