Queen Victoria Street. In the centre of the Pier would be
a bay for the use of vehicles-ferry launches while room would be found on the sides for the services running to Shamshuipo and Mongkok (see Plan D in Sessional Paper No.6 of 1928). Further the present ferry service which runs from the Western end of Victoria to Hunghom and is also indicated on the plan, enclosure 6, would have its terminus moved to the Eastern side of the same new pier, thus avoiding a cross route. No other alterations in the Hunghom service are at present contemplated.
The construction of this pier with the arrangements for the converging lines of ferries shown on the plan has been a matter of the most careful consideration and no undue danger is anticipated in approaching or leaving the berths. It will be noticed that the lines are divergent. The
concentration of ferries on one wharf in this manner will release two pier sites ( those in use for the Shamshuipo and the Hunghom Services) for other purposes in a part of the front where they are very badly needed.

Of the existing piers concerned, the Queen Victoria Street pier must in any event be shortly reinforced and
enlarged. It is at present small and unsuitable for the heavy traffic it has to carry. Similarly, the two other piers concerned on the Hong Kong side, which are timber structures, must be reconstructed at an early date, as
considerable deterioration has taken place. At none of the
piers on the Hong Kong side is there a sufficient concourse area, all three jutting out directly from the very busy Connaught Road along which there is a constant stream of
motor car, lorry and other traffic. The congestion on Connaught Road has increased to such an extent that it has become essential to reclaim areas at the ferry terminals on
the
