employment in Hong Kong. It is hoped to place a few more before the Battalion leaves, and to continue to send men to
Hong Kong after they have left the Station. It is for the
furtherance of this scheme, enlarged by the inclusion of men from other units also, that the co-operation of the Hong Kong Government is being sought.
3. The Committee carefully considered the position and makes the following recommendations:-
(a) That the Inspector General of Police shall interview
any man of the King's Own Scottish Borderers or any other Unit put forward who is due for discharge before March 31st, 1931, and who wishes to find employment
in the Hong Kong Police; further that he should keep
a waiting list of those men whom he considers suitable
and, as vacancies occur, apply to the Battalion in
India for them.
(b) That the Superintendent of Prisons and Head of the
Sanitary Department and other Departments interested,
shall do likewise.
(c) That a circular be sent to all Government Departments
and that the Heads of these Departments be asked to
estimate the probable vacancies in their Departments
for the coming year so that similar waiting lists may
be prepared by them. If successful, it is proposed
that Heads of Departments should be circularized
annually to ascertain what men, due for discharge
while stationed in Hong Kong can be absorbed.
(d) That Officer Commanding 2nd Battalion King's Own
Scottish Borderers and all other Officers Command ing
concerned, shall make every endeavour to get the
Government of India to give free passages to men who
