The motor is shown on a suitable foundation under the firing platform driving off a 5 in. diameter pulley with 6 in. wide belt on to a 15 in. pulley on the countershaft, which can be conveniently fixed to the underside of the kettle staging by means of suitable hangers. Off the countershaft, a 4 in. belt and a 15 in. pulley drives the agitating gear on the kettle which is fitted with 24 in. diameter fast and loose pulleys running at 200 r.p.m.
The mixer is run off a 6 in. diameter pulley on the countershaft with a 4 in. wide belt on to 24 in. diameter fast and loose pulleys running at 80 r.p.m.
We are informed by the Trinidad Lake Asphalt Operating Company Ltd. that in nearly every Colony they maintain a technical expert whose assistance may be enlisted and who is quite familiar with the local conditions. If, as a result of this article, Public Works Departments desire further information, we shall be very happy to supply it.
