The Government has offered Colfix Limited

the opportunity to make a sixth test; the

invitation has not been accepted,

the

Company preferring instead to memorialise the

Secretary of State on the subject of the

"prejudice" etc. which is directed against them.

I think in this case (like that of the

road signs dealt with on 72735/30) that the

Colonial Government must be allowed to make

their own choice of the material they employ

on their roads.

Neither "Colfix" nor "Straight"

Asphalt is produced from raw materials of

British origin; so there is nothing between them

on that score and the former is more expensive.

The

The Gold Coast Government is using considerable

quantities of "Colprovia" (which, I think, is a

very similar preparation to Colfix) with

success.

?We might send the duplicate of the

despatch and correspondence (for return) to

the Crown Agents for any observations which they

may care to offer.

?Otherwise ask the Officer

Administering the Government to cause Colfix

Limited to be informed that the Secretary of

State has received and considered their letter

but that he sees no reason to intervene in the

matter.

?Copy duplicate despatch,

enclosures, and our reply to Department of

Overseas Trade. L.F.
