Head 33.A. Volunteer Defence Corps shows considerable
decreases in Other Charges and less Special Expenditure
than usual.
Head 3. Miscellaneous Services. The grants to the
Civil Service Cricket Club, to the Royal Society of
Tropical Medicine and for the proposed History of
Hong Kong constitute commitments which have already been approved by Finance Committee, as also has the
increased subsidy for Broadcasting. It has been
necessary to insert a sum of $50,000 for the decennial Census due next year, and a lump sum of $50,000 for the
Chinese New Year bonus recommended by the Salaries
Commission. A new sub-head "Acting pay" has been
entered. This expenditure has as a rule been met
from the lapsing pay of cach department, but the
creation of the new sub-head is considered to be in
better order.
The general subsidy to the University
has been put at the revised 1930 figure of $350,000 for which approval was recently obtained in this Council.
