With reference to Your Excellency's note of the 7th

March with regard to the _ifficulties said to have been

encountered in the importation of French brandies into

Hongkong, I have the honour to inform you that a report

on the subject has now been received from the Governor of

that Colony.

2. The Governor states that the Superintendent of Tmsorts

and Exports of the government of Hongkong has not in

practice insisted on the certificate of the "Contributions

Indirectes" Derartment in cases where other certificates

produced have appeared satisfactory to him and that these

have, since the relations came into force, included

certificates signed by Mayors of localities, by local French

customs authorities, and in one case, by the President of

a Chamber of Commerce.

3. I have the honour to request you to be good enough to

communicate the above information to the notice of the French

ox orters and intereste concerned.
