owing by the President of China for scholarships given in

his name.

On March

On March 11th, 1925, the Registrar sent to the

Education Department, Ministry of Education, Feking at their

request, some University publications, and enclosed a statement of account for the Feking students (54,730) and

also drew the attention of the Ministry of Education to the

sum of $5,391.75 owing by the President of China.

20th a letter was received from the Colonial Secretary

enclosing copy of a letter written to the Wai Chiao Pu on

March 5 th from the British Legation, Peking, in which a

request for an early settlement of the Central Government

debt was made. The Colonial Secretary, in his letter,

stated that he thought the time (March, 1925) inopportune for pressure to be brought regarding the payment of the Presiden-

tal Scholarships account. He asked to be informed of the

exact amounts at present outstanding in respect of the

Ministry of Education debt and the Presidential Scholarships

debt.

5. On August 1st, 1925, the Registrar made formal

application to the Minister of Education for the payment of $56,460.00 on account of the Peking Government Scholarships

and enclosed a statement of accounts and the records of two

scholars viz:- Messrs. Shu Yu Pong and Liu Tang Kwan.

On November 17th, 1925, the Vice Chancellor wrote to

Mr. H. H. Fox of the British Legation, Peking, enclosing a

copy of the account and suggesting that as the Tariff

Conference had just started it might be a good opportunity

to once again present the bill. Mr. Fox replied under date

of December 2nd.1925, asking for a complete statement of

the University's claim, giving particulars of the e xact
