offer. I fear objects mentioned by you are of too local
an importance to be suitable.
Hornell has advocated
scheme for School of Chinese studies at University.
Please telegraph
(1) whether you support that object
(2) what is least sum that will make practical success of
the scheme (3) whether if (a) £50,000 or (b) £25,000
were provided from Rajah's gift (possibly on pound for
pound basis) remainder would be forthcoming.
