Faragraph 139. The salary recommended for the Colonial

Veterinary Surgeon is for a post without private practice

and in-23-much-25 the present holder will be entitled by reason

of the shortened range of the new scale to its maximum of £1,200

s against his present £25 it is considered that he should

forego the allowance he now receives for the loss of a private

practice which he always of a rather nobulous naturc.

Paragraph 140. It is recommended that the present system of

bonus increments to Inspectors for possession of ccrtain technical

and linguistic qualifications shall be continued.

Paragraph 142 The Commissioners were misinformed as to the

prosent cmoluments of the Dust Station Foreman. He already

rcocives a rent aliumance of $48 per annum, and a salary of

$324 to $384 by $12 anually with rent allowance is now recomm-

ended.

Faragraph 143 - 145.

Botanical & Forestry Department.

While satisfactory material for training into gardeners

and foresters may be obtainable at $156 pcr annum, the increases

(four triennial incrcments of $12 cach allotted in the Report

arc insufficient to retain men with any rcal aptitude for the

class of work, the outside market rate for this scrvice being

considerably better. It is therefore recommend cd that the

scales of these cmployees shall be $156 to $228 by two increments.

nine and tclve years.
