With reference to paragraph five of Sir Cecil
Clementi's despatch No.37 of the 22nd of January, 1930, I
have the honour to inform Your Lordship that the Hong Kong
General Chamber of Commerce has now presented the Report of
its Special Committee appointed to examine in detail and
criticise the recommendations of the Salaries Commission 1929.

commentaries, and it is particularly requested that their
publication should be avoided. Sufficient reason for this
request is to be found in the details contained in the letter
of Mr. Lauder, who is the Head of the Union Insurance Society
of Canton, a Public Company of this Colony.
Enclosures Nos. 3&4 letters in reply are appended.

I consider that they furnish an effective answer to
the views and criticisms of the Chamber of Commerce and see
no reason to revise the views of Sir Cecil Clementi as set
out in his despatch under reference.
