and
offrers
The revised salary scheme has passed
the Legislative Council, all the unofficial
members save two, who being members of the
Salaries Commission abstained from voting,
di ssenting.
The telegram is rather involved,
but it appears that the Government in the
interests of economy conceded the following
points.
1.
Sterling salaries on the revised
scale are to be converted at the current rate
of exchange.
As the dollar depreciates the
effect will be to give more dollars to officers
whose salaries are fixed in sterling, while
the local cost of living has not at present
increased proportionately.
The sterling salaries are held to be
adequate and, pending further consideration of
the question, no addition in the way of high
cost of living allowances is to be paid on them.
2.
The qualification of ten years'
service as a condition precedent to the
drawing of rent allowances by local dollar-paid
officers above the lowest grade is to be
retained.
3.
A personnel retrenchment committee
is to be a pointed.
