regulations I was aware that difficulties
must be anticipated, and I must make it clear
to you that I am not prepared to agree to any
modification of the law now in operation.
I must therefore direct that the new system shall be
maintained, and such steps as you may consider
necessary should be taken to ensure that employers
of Mui Tsai are left in no doubt in that respect.
3.
On the conclusion of the six months
interval allowed for the registration or existing
Mui Tsai, I shall be glad if you will report to
me the number of registrations that have been
effected, and generally what measures, if any, you
may consider to be required to promote the policy
expressed in the present law.
4. A copy of this correspondence is being
forwarded to Sir William Peel.
