My dear Harris,
I had hoped up until a few days ago to take
advantage of your kind offer to come to England before
sailing for the Orient.
We suddenly learned that Mrs. Johnson would be
unable to go with me on account of her invalid Sister's
requirements. She (Mrs. J.) left yesterday for the U.S.
and was such a good sport about giving up the trip that
I hope very much that she will be able to join me in
Japan next summer where we remain from June to September,
thus avoiding the hot season in Java Singapore and India
(if we go there). Mrs. J. had never been to the
Riviera and so we spent her remaining few days at Juan-
Les-Pins with excursions to Nice, Monte Carlo, Menton
Grasse etcetera to her very great delight.
We were very busy at Geneva getting up question-
