RE "RAY

REFLECTIVE SIGNS.

We have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 25th inst., and have now pleasure in confiming verbal conversation between your Mr. Goldsmith and our Mr. Currie of this morning, when the question of erection of the above signs in Hongkong was fully discussed.

In the first place, before proceeding to put our discussions briefly on record, we would like to mention that we entirely sympathize with, and approve of, the desire on the part of the Government to prevent the erection of any signs or advert is ement s which may disfigure the landscape, but as the signs which we are in a position to manufacture locally are not illuminating, nor would it be our intention to erect these indiscriminately throughout the Colony, we would esteem it a favour if you would kindly look further into this matter on the strength of what we shall write below, and we hope that you will be prepared to favourably reconsider your previous decisions in this matter.

We enclose herewith one or two photographs

of various signs which have been erected elsewhere, these, we think, will readily show you the exact type of signs which we propose. As regards a fuller explanation of the "Ray" Reflective Signs, we have the honour to refer you to our letter dated 22nd April.

In the mean time, we have been in touch with various companies, such as Lane Crawford Ltd., Asiatic Petroleum Co., Texas Oil Co. and many others, and in different cases we have receive tentative orders for quite a number of signs, but it has been left to us to find suitable places for erection of the se, either on private property or on Crown Land. So far, we have naturally been unable to proceed further in the matter until we have had the sanction of the Government, and as we are naturally anxious to get this business moving at the earliest possible moment, we would much appreciate it if you could give this matter your early attention, and we look forward to being favoured with your reply in due course.

We would also take this opportunity of drawing your attention to the fact that these "Ray Signs are very suitable for road danger signals, etc, and as we think that the Road Authorities might be interested in these, we are making up a quotation, which we shall have the pleasure of submitting to you in the course of the next few days.

In alosing, we would further like to draw your attention to the fact that these "Ray* Signs are entirely of British manufacture, and the materials utilised in their manufacture are also all British. Furthermore, the manufacture of these Signs locally will constitute, although small, a new
