The questi on of Police Guards under European Police
Officers was fully discussed end all Shiping Companies agreed
that the Guards should come entirely under the Inspector
General of Police.
II.
The applications for Guards were taken up according
to the shipping routes:-
(1) Hope Long - Singapore - Calcutta koute.
Messrs. Mackinnon l'ackenzie & Co. and Messrs. Jardine
Katheson & Co. Ltd. requested that their ships on this route
should be supplied with the following guards:-
European Police Officer 1/c

Fo. 1 Indian Guard

Indian Guards (rank and file)

These two Companies proposed to commence with 4 sets of Guards
between them. Guards to be transferred from one steamer to
another in Hong Kong and Singapore respectively.
