A Policeman is provided with free medical attendance. If absent from
duty in hospital through sickness from climatic or ordinary causes, the following stoppages are made.
Those whose salaries are under $900 per annum, 3rd Class 60 cents. 2nd Class 75 cents. Those whose salaries are $900 per annum or above 3rd " 75 cents. 2nd Class $1.00.per
diem.
In cases of ordinary sickness, all members of the Police Force may
receive sick leave for 28 days on full pay in any period of twelve
consecutive months. Absence from duty on Medical certificate beyond a
pe ri od of 12 consecutive months will be treated as full pay or half pay
leave or leave without pay as the case may be.
When the sickness of a subordinate officer or Constable is caused by
intemperance, or is certified by a Goverment Medical Officer to be
due to venereal disease which has been aggravated by concealment,
or
to sickness or injury which is purposely self inflicted, he shall be
provided with medical attendance, medical comforts, diet and
accommodation in hospital free, but his pay shall be stopped for so
long as he is absent from duty.
Where a Police Officer's health is permane ntly impaired as a result of
injury received on duty he will be entitled to an addition to his
pension in accordance with the provisions of the Police Force Ordinance
and Police Pension Regulations. If a Police Officer is killed on duty
his next of kin will be entitled to such a compassionate allowance or
pension as may be provided by the Governor in Council.
Promotion is entirely by selection, due regard, being taken to length
of service, good character, linguistic attainments and education. A
man becomes a second class constable on passing out of the Police
Training School. He attains the rank of first class constable after 5
years service, provided that for the six months prior to the date on
which he is due for promotion his character sheet has been clear.
