I have the honour to report that this Colony has received a visit from the representatives of the American Syndicate who recently purchased the Shanghai Municipal Electricity Undertaking at the
very high figure of $80,000,000.

It is understood
that these gentlemen inspected the two electric
power stations of this Colony, one of which supplies the power for the low-level tramway system on the island as well as for the Peak Tramway, and there are rumours that they are considering the purchase of these undertakings.

regard to the Hong Kong Telephone Company is dealt with in "r. Amery's confidential despatch of the lôth of January, 1929, and my reply dated the 23rd of March, 1929.
