Chinese Section is very great. They only run one local train each

way per day, in addition to the "Slow Through".

11. The estimated revenue resulting from the suggested im-

provements is very optimistic. The anticipated increase in nuND-

bers of passengers could not possibly be accommodated without a

great number of additional 3rd class coachua, more trains would be

required to run, and consequently working expenses would be in-

oreaped.

The last item of the estimate is not understood.

The Table of Interest and amortisation (page 12) might

be clearer if the rates of interest were shown. The original loan was at 5% while the new loan of $3,000,000 ($1,000,000 to be pro- vided by Government) appears to be at 84%

On the whole is is both refreshing and encouraging to

soo that a serious attempt is at last being made to improve the

situation, but I should have felt happier had the estimate of re-

sulting revenue been more conservative.
