With reference to my despatch No. 79 of the
23rd ultimo regarding the Canton-Kowloon Railway, I have
the honour to inform you that the Engineer-in-Chief of the
Chinese Section of the Railway has now received a letter
dated July 30th from the Managing Director of the Chinese
Section to the effect that the Ministry of Communications
have ordered the Purchasing Commission to place an order
for the Railway for 40,000 Australian sleepers from Bowden
Brothers & Company, besides the 20,000 New South Wales and
20,000 Apitong sleepers already ordered. The new order is
expected to be delivered from November 1930 to April 1931. The Railway will remit B$20,000 monthly up to the end of this year and thereafter B$30,000 monthly until the total
amount is paid.
