Sir,
With reference to our letter of the 21st February
1929, I have the honour to transmit for the information
of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, valuations as
on 2nd January 1930 of the securities held by us as cover
for the note issues of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation and the Chartered Bank of India, Australia
and China in Hong Kong and the Straits Settlements. Copies
of letters received from the banks giving details of the
note circulation and the amount of coin deposited in
Hong Kong and Shanghai are also enclosed; these refer to
31st December 1929.

It will be seen that the valuations show an
excess over the amount of security required, amounting to
£706,430. 5. 1d in the case of the Hong Kong and Shanghai
Banking Corporation and to £426,933.- 6d in the case of the
Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China.
